デヴィッド・ボウイのアルバム「ヒーローズ」（Heroes：1977）について
デヴィッド・ボウイ（David Bowie：1947-）のアルバム「ヒーローズ」（Heroes：1977）は、前作のアルバム「ロウ」（Low：1977）と次作のアルバム「ロジャー」（Lodger：1979）とともに「ベルリン三部作」と呼ばれるものです。デヴィッド・ボウイはこの頃、アメリカ時代の薬物依存症の治療と、グラム・ロック時代から続いたプロデューサー、ミック・ロンソン（Mick Ronson：1946-1993）と決別することによって、自身の音楽性を見直すためにベルリンに住んでアルバムを製作しました。
「ベルリン三部作」はブライアン・イーノとのコラボレーションによるもので、アバンギャルドな芸術性の音楽を志向しています。三部作といっても、アルバムごとの音楽の傾向はことなったもので、「ロウ」はドイツを意識してか、ナチズムを思わせるようなダークな演出が見られ、「ロジャー」ではポップスの傾向が増しています。「ヒーローズ」はその両者の音楽性がほど良いバランスで調和した傑作アルバムとなっています。
デヴィッド・ボウイはこの「ベルリン三部作」の後、「シック」（Chic）を率いていたナイル・ロジャース（Nile Rodgers：1952-）をプロデューサーに迎え、ダンサブルなポップス傾向のロックを志向しましたが、デヴィッド・ボウイにとって「ベルリン三部作」の時代はカルトなロック・スターから幅広い音楽性を備えたポップ・スターへの過渡期・転換期といえます。また、アルバム「ヒーローズ」は表題曲のみが有名で、話題に採り上げられることも多いのですが、アルバム全体を聴けば分るように、その完成度において、デヴィッド・ボウイが創り上げた音楽のひとつの頂点だったと思います。
表題作「ヒーローズ」はベルリン三部作において、現実的なベルリンの壁さえ乗り越える英雄的行為についての歌ですが、その本質は政治的プロパガンダではなく、「愛」とその意思の強さを謳いあげていました。この歌が人々にとってベルリン壁崩壊の応援歌のように扱われ、多くのヒーローたちの手を借りて東西ドイツは統一されたのは歴史的事実ですが、もう一度言いますがこれは「愛」の歌なのです。ですから今も時代を超えて愛され続けているのだと思います。
