「私は知っている」ジャン・ギャバン

ジャン＝ルー・ダバディー（Jean-Loup Dabadie）の詩をフランスの名優ジャン・ギャバンが語り歌っています。晩年のレコーディングならではのスマートな味わいと余韻は一編の短編映画を観ているようです。ジャン＝ルー・ダバディーの詩はジャン・ギャバンの人生そのもの、考え方を代弁しているような気さえします。あるいはジャン＝ルー・ダバディーの人生観をジャン・ギャバンが演じているとも思えます。

詩の内容は、「今、私は知っている。…地球がどのようにして回っているかは知らないけれど、私の人生で私はまだ学んでいる、誰かが君を愛していることは素晴らしいこと、素晴らしいことを伝えることができない。そしてそれがいまだに私を驚かせる。…人生や愛、お金、友人やバラ（人生の喜びと楽しみ？）を知っている。」というもので、論語の「知之為知之、不知為不知、是知也」（これを知るをこれを知ると為し、知らざるを知らずと為せ。是れ知るなり。＝知ったことは知ったこととし、知らないことは知らないこととする、それがしるということ。）にも通じる意味合いです。人間年をとると、若い者より人生経験も豊富で、たくさんの事を知っていると偉ぶる人も多いのですが、この歌のように言える人は少ないようです。
余談ですが、ジャン・ルー・ダバディーは有名な映画脚本家、シナリオライター、作詞家で、ミッシェル・ポルナレフの「ホリデー（愛の休日）」などの詩も書いています。元サッカー日本代表監督フィリップ・トルシエのフランス語通訳、フーロンラン・ダバディの父親でもあります。

ジャン・ギャバン(1904–1976)は、1930年に「Mephisto」映画デビュー、その後ジュリアン・デュヴィヴィエ監督の「地の果てを行く」「ゴルゴダの丘」「我等の仲間」「望郷」、ジャン・ルノワール監督の「大いなる幻影」「フレンチ・カンカン」、ジャック・ベッケル監督の「現金に手を出すな」、マルセル・カルネ監督の「われら巴里ッ子」や、「地下室のメロディー」や「暗黒街のふたり」など、最後の出演作1976年「脱獄の報酬」（L’Année sainte）まで数多くの映画で印象深いフランスを代表する俳優です。もし一言で形容すればそれは「男らしさ」、「男らしさ」という言葉はジャン・ギャバンのダンディズムに良く合う言葉だと思います。演じた年代毎に男らしさを感じさせる人でした。ジャン・ギャバンをもっと知りたい人は、彼の出演作品を観ることお薦めします。
